Mrs. Arlene Day aka “Mama Day” is an author of a memoir titled “I Promised My Friend”, an advocate for mental illness, and retired nurse with over 40 years of experience cherished not only for her gifts as an excellent orator and writer but for her commitment to her community. Mama Day was born in the Bronx, New York where she led a good life and was an excellent student graduating from high school with a degree in Nursing. She got married and worked as a LPN throughout Long Island and New York City. She raised three beautiful children in Roosevelt, Long Island all of whom were A students and graduated from universities. Mama Day was an active parent and known throughout the entire Roosevelt community. Mama Day is the proud grandparent of three beautiful granddaughters. In her spare time she writes, crochets, knits, swims, does martial arts and african dance. In 2002, Mama Day was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and she determined to not let the disease have her but to be a successful survivor and to help others on the road of recovery. She joined the National Association for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) and became a presenter as part of their In Our Own Voice (IOOV) Program. Mama Day's presentations leave audiences in the aisles and feeling like their cravings and buds for information have been satisfied. A film called Perseverance documenting Arlene Day's extraordinary life was made. Arlene Day is the consummate educator who enjoys interacting with her audience, therefore whenever she is onstage you will be guaranteed that you will experience all the elements of an excellent speaker!
